I just received around 30 pulp figures back from Doc Merkury who did a great job painting these for me. I am currently going through the finishing process and will post pics when they are done. I really like how the Ogre companion came out.

One of the designers of Where Heroes Dare! has been working on a science fiction version and he took the time to host a game. His table was awesome and the game was a lot of fun. Like WHD!, the game is about creating a story line and major characters are often just captured when they fall instead of dying. Pre-painted Star Wars figures work well for this game and that is what we used.
The Republic forces landed in an attempt to determine if General Grievous was building some kind of secret weapon, but instead are caught in a trap and have to try to escape. Obi-wan manages to escape but is forced to leave Anakin behind when he falls to become General Grievous' prisoner.
... that hasn't happened in an age. I painted something!
So, I have had these Wargames Factory Romans for years now and I finally did something with them.
I built the entire box and painted one stand to test the process and colors out. We'll see if I can get the rest done in the next 10 years, ;-) I built a few Numidians for psiloi and some light cav too for a DBA army. I think the test stand came out pretty good. If the rest come out equally as good, I will be happy.
I recently purchased some modern figures and vehicles from Age of Glory. This is the first time I have ordered from them and I recommend them highly. They provided a high degree of communication, the shipping cost was super reasonable and I got my stuff in three days. This experience was far better than any other internet miniatures retailer experience I have had in the past.
I have to go on record about the Imprint Modern vehicles too, they are fantastic looking! I have been looking for some of these vehicles in 1/50th scale for some time (years in fact) and I am quite pleased with them.
Doc Merkury's recent moderns in Afghanistan post inspired me to finish my moderns. Doc Merkury actually painted these too. I spent last week and the weekend basing and finishing these along with some other figs. I also just ordered a bunch of Taliban figures from The Assault Group to give these guys someone to fight.
If you have a solo roleplaying/storytelling itch that needs scratched, you should check out the Doctor Who Solitaire Story Game. It is free and very good. This is my personal favorite for solo roleplaying. There is a lot of material already available for the game and the author has more scheduled through 2014. You don't need to be a Doctor Who fan to enjoy the game, but you may become one if you start playing. They also came up with a pretty clever idea on an alternate way to play the game. They created a wiki that links everything together and included Doctor Who imagery and sounds to assist in setting the environment, complete with die roller. I can play this game entirely on my iPad if I am on the go too. You can get everything you need to play the game here, and the wiki is here.
I had a chance to download the Dropzone Commander building slides last week and had Staples print a few of them and then over the weekend I built one to check the scale against my Battletech minis. I think they look pretty good. I haven't had a chance to glue it together yet, but even dry-fit they look good. Here is a link to the Buildings.
Apparently, Dropzone Commander has been out for several months, but I was just made aware of it this past week. The game is produced by Hawk Wargames. I don't really need a new miniatures game to play in a different scale than I am already gaming in, but there are some intriguing aspects to the game. The unit models are nice, but the buildings are a big draw for me. The game is scaled at 10mm which is very close to the 12mm scaling for my click base Battletech figures and these building would look fantastic on my table. They may even work well for 15mm.
There is a downside though, the buildings are extremely expensive and you have to assemble them yourself. The quality looks to be very high, but they will probably be out of reach for most gamers. On the other hand, Hawk Wargames has made image panels of the buildings available for free download from their website and they look very nice for card buildings. Look in their downloads section.
